When to Visit Morocco by 4x4? The Allmoov Marrakech Guide

Morocco is an ideal destination for discovering the country from a different perspective, behind the wheel of a 4x4 and at the pace of its tracks. From the High Atlas passes to the pre-Saharan valleys, from palm groves to the vast expanses of the Sahara, every route reveals a different side of Morocco.

But to make the most of a 4x4 adventure, choosing the right time of year is essential. Temperatures, track conditions and mountain weather can vary considerably depending on the season and the region you are travelling through.

At Allmoov Marrakech, we design our 4x4 adventures with these conditions in mind, so you can discover Morocco in the best possible circumstances.

What is the best time to explore Morocco by 4x4?

In general, spring and autumn are the most favourable seasons for a 4x4 adventure in Morocco.

Temperatures are pleasant across most regions, the days offer ideal conditions for exploring the tracks, and the climate is particularly well suited to discovering southern Morocco and the desert.

Spring: March to May

Spring offers an excellent balance for travelling through Morocco by 4x4. Temperatures in the south are generally pleasant, while the landscapes still benefit from the last traces of winter vegetation.

It is also a beautiful time to cross the mountains, valleys and palm groves of southern Morocco.

Autumn: September to November

Autumn is one of the best seasons for an adventure. The intense summer heat begins to ease, bringing more comfortable temperatures, particularly in desert regions.

It is an especially good time to discover the great dunes of the Sahara and learn to drive across different types of terrain.

Summer: June to August

Summer can be extremely hot, particularly in southern Morocco and the desert regions. High temperatures can make certain stages less comfortable, especially during the middle of the day.

That does not mean Morocco is off-limits for a 4x4 adventure. Routes can be adapted by favouring mountainous or Atlantic regions, as well as adjusting driving times to suit the conditions.

Winter: December to February

Winter offers pleasant conditions in the desert and southern Morocco, with bright days and temperatures that are often considerably milder than in Europe.

However, travelling through the High Atlas requires greater attention. Some mountain passes can experience snow or become temporarily difficult to access. Routes therefore need to be adapted according to the conditions at the time of travel.

A 4x4 adventure that adapts to the seasons… and to you

At Allmoov Marrakech, we do not see an itinerary as a fixed route.

Our signature itinerary offers 4 days and 3 nights, departing from Marrakech, with a different setting each night and a gradual immersion into the landscapes of southern Morocco.

But this circuit is first and foremost a starting point.

Depending on the season, the time you have available and your preferences, the journey can be extended or completely redesigned: crossing the High Atlas, exploring the valleys and palm groves of the south, venturing into the Sahara, discovering the imperial cities or continuing towards the Atlantic coast.

The aim is to create an itinerary that is suited to the travelling conditions, and above all, to the way you want to experience Morocco.

What do you actually do on an Allmoov 4x4 adventure?

A 4x4 adventure is not simply about covering kilometres.

As you follow the tracks, you learn how to handle different types of terrain, adapt your driving and understand the fundamentals of off-road driving.

In the dunes, an introduction to sand-driving techniques allows you to learn how to approach climbs, descents and more technical sections. But driving is only part of the experience…

The journey also takes you through constantly changing landscapes, encounters with local communities, villages and regions far beyond the traditional tourist routes.

It is this combination of driving, discovery and adventure that defines the spirit of Allmoov Marrakech's 4x4 journeys.

The nights: a different setting every evening

The journey is also shaped by its overnight stops. Depending on the itinerary, accommodation can take many different forms: comfortable hotels, guesthouses, traditional bivouacs or nights in the heart of the desert.

Changing scenery every evening adds another dimension to the experience, allowing you to discover a different side of Morocco at every stage.

In the Sahara, the night takes on a special character. After a day spent on the tracks, the silence of the desert and the star-filled sky offer a completely different experience from the rhythm of Marrakech.

Why travel with Allmoov Marrakech?

A 4x4 adventure requires experience, particularly when leaving the main roads and venturing onto remote tracks.

At Allmoov Marrakech, our journeys are led by Jérôme, a former professional driver who took part in 19 editions of the Paris-Dakar Rally.

His experience on the terrain allows him to share the right techniques, adapt driving to different situations and, above all, pass on a genuine understanding of rally-raid and desert driving.

The aim is not to turn you into a competitor, but to give you the opportunity to take the wheel, learn, improve and discover Morocco from a different perspective.
